Position Overview

Alleghany Highlands Community Services is dedicated to offering comprehensive support and services to individuals facing behavioral health challenges as well as intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role is pivotal in conducting face-to-face evaluations of individuals experiencing crises and identifying the most suitable treatment options.

The Intake/Emergency Services Clinician will play a crucial dual role within the Emergency Services Unit. The primary responsibility involves performing intakes and assessments for individuals referred for mental health or substance use disorder services. The clinician will ensure that individuals engage with recommended services through follow-up communications, including calls and letters. Additionally, they will deliver Motivational Enhancement Therapy in group settings to newly admitted clients, fostering their readiness for treatment and change. Participation in treatment team meetings alongside psychiatrists and other service professionals is also essential.

The secondary responsibility encompasses providing both face-to-face and telephonic crisis intervention and brief counseling to clients requiring immediate mental health support. This includes conducting hospital preadmission screenings to protect the rights and welfare of all clients served by Alleghany Highlands Community Services.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology (mandatory)
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental health or substance use disorders (mandatory)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Eligible (mandatory)
  • Valid Driver's License

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face pre-hospitalization screenings and secure appropriate psychiatric bed space
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients and their families, via telephone or in-person
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations and assessments to determine treatment levels and referrals to community-based services
