About the Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Virology Research Scientist to join our team at Commonwealth Sciences, Inc. in Rochester, MN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, rescue, and characterize novel viruses or viral vectors using advanced molecular cloning techniques.
  • Plan and execute scientific research projects with minimal supervision, collecting and analyzing data to inform research decisions.
  • Present scientific findings to research and management teams, proposing next steps and contributing to strategic project development.
  • Develop and optimize molecular and cell-based assays for virus and viral vector characterization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project success and contribute to the development of innovative research solutions.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in molecular cloning and experience with lentiviral vector engineering.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong background in eukaryotic cell culture, molecular biology, and virology.

Preferred Skills:

  • Eukaryotic cell culture expertise, including flow cytometry, cell proliferation, and cell viability.
  • Molecular biology skills, including qPCR, RT-PCR, and western blot.
  • Virology expertise, including viral analytics, virus production, and design, rescue, and characterization of negative sense single-stranded RNA viruses.
