Job Summary

PacifiCorp is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer, Transmission and Distribution Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support for protection and control equipment. You will act as an expert to operation and field personnel to investigate and resolve problem situations or complex issues. Additionally, you will facilitate internal training for substation journeyman and relay technicians, research, analyze, develop, and implement new programs, systems, and processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. You will also develop and maintain operational, procedural, commissioning, and maintenance documentation. Your responsibilities will include performing protection system coordination studies, performing operational review of protective relays, remedial action schemes, and control systems, providing equipment failure analysis and corrective solutions, and providing technical oversight and guidance to the T&D support staff. You will serve as the Company expert in a specialized field and provide authoritative consultation and recommendations to senior management. You will provide technical expertise to critical and highly complex substation, distribution and transmission operation and control functions within the business. You will develop and modify policies and practices to improve the overall operational effectiveness of PacifiCorp's transmission and distribution system. You will lead development and implementation processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness. You will evaluate policies, procedures and other documentation and ensure all aspects of electrical operations are in accordance with company safety procedures, legislative requirements and meet all NERC reliability standard requirements. You will analyze schemes and prints and prepare field notebooks and outlines for installation of substation equipment. You will work with engineers and operations staff to resolve system and design issues. You will provide training as needed for various departments including dispatch, relay technicians, relay technician trainees, communication technicians, communication technician trainees, substation journeyman, substation journeyman apprentices and switchman.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of industry experience as a substation journeyman, relay technician, communications technician or T&D Specialist including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Highest level of communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives and recommendations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
  • Expert knowledge and applications of principles in applicable area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of the power system.
  • Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Expert knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors.
  • Understanding of applicable company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman's terms.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Respond after hours to support field crews as required
