Discrete Component Design Engineer

Amentum is seeking a skilled Discrete Component Engineer to join our team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane. As a trusted partner to the US government and allied governments, we are committed to delivering exceptional support to critical programs across various domains.

About the Role:

  • Provide technical expertise in discrete component engineering to support the technologist team, including writing comprehensive technical reports.
  • Advise military programs and designers on part selection, ensuring the highest quality and reliability standards.
  • Troubleshoot discrete component issues and recommend effective solutions, leveraging expertise in electrical test methods and techniques.
  • Interface with program offices, prime contractors, designers, parts manufacturers, test labs, and other government agencies to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Develop and review test plan documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide complete life-cycle support of strategic systems, including participation in Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Audits and Joint Electronic Devices Engineering Council (JEDEC) meetings.
  • Travel is required 25-50% of the time, with opportunities to work with a diverse range of stakeholders and projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience in component or systems engineering.
  • Proven expertise in quality and reliability standards and methods of IEEE parts, with a focus on IC's.
  • Knowledgeable or willing to learn best design practices for IEEE parts, including manufacturing processes.
  • Basic understanding of military industry standards (MIL-STD) and the ability to analyze differences between standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to customers, program offices, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to learn more complex functions.
  • Ability to write technical reports and participate in audits and reviews.
  • Understanding of basic electrical testing of IEEE parts and the ability to perform basic electrical benchtop testing.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance (US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Component Engineer with a focus on quality and reliability standards and methods of IEEE parts, with a focus on IC's.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, including formula integration and macros.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
