Job Description

The Spent Fuel Handling Project is a 4 billion dollar initiative focused on replacing the current Expanded Core Facility, where Naval nuclear fuel is processed, examined, and prepared for long-term storage. The new 213 thousand square foot facility is designed to operate for the next 50 plus years, requiring a team of engineers and subcontract technical representatives to ensure standards and quality are met. This involves document reviews, assisting in writing Technical Change Requests, and following the work, which may require working alternate shifts to support critical evolutions.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in construction, engineering, or a science-related field, and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, or currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified, or qualified SIT and 3 years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program, or currently or previously CRE qualified, or 6 years as SRE, or SRE qualified and 9 years of experience, or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in construction, engineering, or a science-related field, and a minimum of 7 years of experience.

Preferred Skills
  • A mechanical engineering degree is preferred, but other disciplines would be considered.
  • Experience working on or with HAVC systems, or other large commercial buildings infrastructure.

Pay Range

$103,161,100.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
