Cardiac Care Registered Nurse

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is an 8-bed high-acuity environment dedicated to the intricate monitoring and treatment of adult cardiac patients. This unit receives individuals requiring specialized cardiac care from various departments, including the Cath Lab and Emergency Department. Nurses in this setting are expected to demonstrate exceptional professional competency and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and direct high-quality, compassionate care by upholding professional nursing standards and fostering positive therapeutic relationships with patients and their families. Provide leadership to team members by clearly communicating and delegating expected care standards, supervising and motivating staff, and recognizing their contributions. Oversee the work of LPNs, PCAs, ED Techs, and other support staff.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of each assigned patient upon admission and continuously thereafter, addressing physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs, as well as pain management, nutritional status, and discharge planning requirements.
- Develop, implement, and document educational initiatives for patients and/or significant others, tailored to their physical, behavioral, psychological, and developmental needs, while identifying any barriers to learning.
- Regularly evaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, and healthcare providers to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
- Delegate nursing responsibilities to team members based on patient needs and the capabilities of the staff.
- Adhere to safety protocols during care delivery and accurately document observations, interventions, and modifications to care plans.
- Engage in transition rounds, care planning discussions, and team shift reports.
- Contribute to performance improvement initiatives by participating in relevant teams and supporting necessary changes for enhancement.
- Complete initial and annual competency assessments as required by job classification.
- Maintain performance, patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and financial standards as outlined in performance evaluations.
- Fulfill compliance requirements as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and oneself.
- Utilize electronic communication, time management software, and learning management systems as necessary.
- Comply with all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Must possess a current RN licensure in Alabama. An Associate degree in Nursing is required. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is mandatory. Professional Nursing Certification is preferred. Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential.
