Occupational Therapist - Geriatric Mental Health Specialist
Job Summary:Unity Health Toronto is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Program. As a key member of our interprofessional team, you will provide specialized psychogeriatric consultation and follow-up services to residents living in long-term care homes with severe mental illness and/or behavioral response issues.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide occupational therapy services to promote, maintain, or restore health and wellbeing through engagement in meaningful occupations in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.
- Assess, treat, consult, and educate patients, family members/caregivers, external agencies, and SMH staff.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Contribute to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource, or support for staff, students, and members of the academic and professional community.
- Identify and address educational needs for patients and their families.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy.
- Current licensure by and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification.
- Minimum three years recent experience in a mental health setting.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills as relates to patient care.
- Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession.
- High level energy and initiative, excellent problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent ability to work with older adults with severe mental illness and/or behavioral response issues.
- Evidence of excellent work and attendance record.
Monday to Friday, 7.5 hour days. Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
