The Chief Flight Nurse Director will lead the air medical service team at CommonSpirit Health, overseeing the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure safe and high-quality patient care. This role will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the air medical service, including staffing, budgeting, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure safe and high-quality patient care
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the air medical service, including staffing, budgeting, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with the program medical director, service leadership, and aircraft vendor to develop and manage protocols specific to the patient transport environment
  • Complete staff rounding, conduct employee engagement action planning sessions, and contribute to action plans and deliver organizational/department communications
  • Align and coordinate day-to-day functions to ensure positive financial productivity and the safety and quality of the patient experience
  • Support and help to coordinate marketing and public relations events specific to the air medical service
  • Manage required education and training for air medical and patient transport specific elements, including advanced skills competencies, Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems standards, Air Medical Resource Management, air medical safety management system, crew fatigue, and air medical environmental conditions
  • Participate in all safety, security, and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department
  • Assume a leadership role in ensuring work practices that are consistent with the CHI Health Safe Patient Handling and Movement Policy, for promoting evidence-based practices for ensuring employee and patient safety

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required within 5 years of hire date
  • Three years critical care/ER experience required
  • Active Nebraska (or multi-state compact) Registered Nurse License
  • Kansas Registered Nurse License required within 3 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required; ACLS Instructor preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within three months of hire
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) and/or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) required after two years of employment
  • TNATC (or ATLS audit) required within one year of hire
  • EMT required within one year of hire
