Job Title: Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

At Connecticut Children's, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic leisure activities to our patients, promoting positive coping and minimizing stress and anxiety.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess the coping responses and leisure needs of assigned patients, developing personalized plans to promote engagement and self-expression.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop treatment goals, effectively communicating observations and recommendations through verbal and written channels.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate activities in individual and group settings, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of medical conditions and healthcare experiences, providing education and resources to team members and patients.
  • Advocate for patient and family needs, activating appropriate resources and referrals as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with infants through young adults required; experience in a behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) designation required upon hire or attained within the first year in role.
