FACILITIES ENGINEER

The Facilities Engineering team at our Starbase location is tasked with the design, modification, and upkeep of our facilities. This position requires a collaborative approach, as the environment is dynamic and the requirements are ever-evolving. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to identify and resolve challenges through effective communication with team members, various departments, end-users, and external vendors. You will collaborate with construction managers, engineers, and internal stakeholders to achieve these objectives. This role offers the chance to instigate positive changes and oversee projects from inception to completion, with the aim of enhancing the Starbase environment for living, working, manufacturing, and launching rockets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a member of our team, you can anticipate:

  • Collaborating with the facilities team and end-users to implement post-construction operational and maintenance functions.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders for effective building operations and maintenance.
  • Drafting and managing construction contracts with subcontractors across various disciplines until project completion.
  • Executing project control tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and cost management.
  • Overseeing all aspects of multi-discipline construction projects on-site.
  • Engaging with contractors, fabricators, owners, and clients.
  • Resolving design and construction conflicts in real-time.
  • Managing the entire lifecycle of projects to ensure timely and budget-conscious delivery while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Organizing tools and documentation related to our construction projects.
  • Providing preliminary budget estimates based on project scope.
  • Collecting proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assigning contracts upon proposal receipt.
  • Establishing final project costs and schedules, implementing necessary controls to manage cost, schedule, and scope.
  • Facilitating necessary approvals from city, county, and governmental entities.
  • Coordinating project execution and monitoring project progress.
  • Managing night shift contractors as project demands arise.
  • Taking on additional projects as business needs evolve.
  • Engaging in a dynamic role focused on designing and constructing infrastructure, housing, amenities, and community spaces for the future of our program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in engineering, project management, construction management, facilities management, or related fields through internships or professional roles.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong analytical skills to make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, and IBC.
  • Experience with drafting software like AutoCAD, Revit, NX, or Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of analysis design programs such as RISA, ETABS, or ANSYS.
  • Ability to conduct trade studies and provide clear recommendations based on engineering principles.
  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment requiring innovative problem-solving under tight constraints.
  • Demonstrated excellence in competitive academic or professional settings.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware development or a strong interest in contributing to tangible projects.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform physical work in various environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Capability to maintain focus in hazardous environments while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Compensation for this role ranges from $95,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for long-term incentives, comprehensive medical benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid time off, among other perks.
