Job Title:

Marine Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

THOR Solutions, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Marine Mechanical Engineer to support the US Coast Guard's Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and conducting trade studies on the configuration of propulsion and associated components.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and documentation for the design, development, and evaluation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment.
  • Research and develop ship propulsion systems, including diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise, vibration, and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analyses of propulsion systems and types, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • Familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.
