Job Summary
As a psychiatric nurse at Prisma Health, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate nurse to join our team in the Adult Unit, working PRN variable shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care duties as assigned or delegated by the Charge Nurse, meeting the physical, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of our patients.
- Deliver care to patients of all ages, demonstrating knowledge of population-specific developmental tasks gained through training and experience.
- Perform basic nursing activities and additional clinical responsibilities as appropriate and necessary for the patient population served.
- Monitor patients' level of distress, anxiety, and/or agitation to reduce or prevent incidents, responding to patient crisis and/or codes via utilization of de-escalation and de-stimulation techniques.
- Attend and/or facilitate therapeutic groups and psycho-educational programs, utilizing a variety of psycho-therapeutic techniques, demonstrating knowledge of mental health principles and practices.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times, using exceptional judgment to ensure patient privacy and dignity.
- Establish positive relationships with team members and practice effective communication, providing excellent customer service to patients, physicians, and other staff members.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient treatment programs, providing input and suggestions for improvement in unit and facility processes.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent or post-secondary degree in a related field.
- No previous experience required, but acute inpatient hospital care or long-term care experience is preferred.
