Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating the work of professional and administrative staff in the performance of various accounting and treasury activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning and Analysis
    • Develop and implement financial plans and budgets to ensure the district's financial goals are met.
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Accounting and Treasury Operations
    • Manage the district's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, SAP, for fund accounting and reporting, disbursements, and payroll.
    • Administer the design, development, implementation, and operation of accounting and information technology systems, methods, and procedures.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance
    • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and other documents to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure the district's financial records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Supervise and direct the work of professional and administrative staff.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in accounting or finance.
  • Experience
    • Six years of professional accounting or finance experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certifications
    • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois, or a state which has reciprocity with Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Study
    • Graduate study in accounting or finance may be substituted for the required non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.
  • Professional Certifications
    • Professional certifications such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) may be beneficial.
