Position Overview:The Insurance Underwriting Specialist plays a pivotal role in the assessment and management of insurance risks, ensuring clients receive optimal coverage by leveraging binding authority and brokerage markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the underwriting process while ensuring compliance with carrier guidelines and internal policies.
- Provide necessary documentation to brokerage markets for accounts outside binding authority.
- Make informed underwriting decisions and address complex coverage issues for retail agencies.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with both binding-authority and brokerage carriers.
- Engage in the solicitation, marketing, quoting, binding, and confirmation of new and existing business.
- Negotiate favorable terms and coverage options with accessible markets, ensuring timely communication with producers regarding submissions and decisions.
- Evaluate and respond to endorsement requests in line with internal and carrier guidelines.
- Monitor accounts to guarantee adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Achieve or surpass documentation standards and comply with underwriting authority levels, passing all audits conducted by markets and internal review teams.
- Maintain all necessary licenses to perform underwriting duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or relevant insurance certification.
- A minimum of three years' experience in underwriting or brokering excess and surplus lines or specialty insurance products.
- Licensure in applicable insurance areas is required.
- Ability to independently navigate the underwriting and brokerage processes, including analyzing insurance policy components, determining terms and conditions, and pricing products.
- Strong understanding of client needs and associated risk profiles.
- Awareness of emerging trends and developments in the insurance sector to enhance underwriting strategies.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in underwriting accounts managed by the team.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to retail insurance agencies.
- Team-oriented skills.
- Current knowledge of the insurance industry landscape.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
