Position Overview

The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for facilitating mortgage loan origination, focusing primarily on the Northshore market for both investor delivery and portfolio retention. This role involves taking applications, performing initial underwriting assessments, and submitting loan requests for processing and approval. Timely follow-up is essential to secure necessary documentation from relevant sources for processing, underwriting, and closing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with potential and existing clients to assess their borrowing requirements.
  • Clarify the distinctions between various mortgage approval criteria and prepare tailored lending packages based on client needs.
  • Assist clients in completing mortgage applications, ensuring all documents are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Review loan applications, compile credit histories, and evaluate the applicant's repayment capacity and risk of default.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with local real estate agents, developers, and builders to promote the bank's residential mortgage services.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage loan origination is required.
  • Familiarity with underwriting standards for FNMA, FMC, FHA, VA, local bonding programs, and private investors.
  • Basic understanding of applicable local, state, and national regulations (including zoning laws, Truth-in-Lending, RESPA, and energy audit requirements).
