Job Title: Teacher of General Health Sciences

The Newark Board of Education is seeking a qualified and dedicated Teacher of General Health Sciences to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the needs of students with varying intellectual and special abilities.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and prepare progress reports.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers.
  • Provide individual, small, and/or large group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional materials, equipment, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervise out-of-classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Communicate with parents and pupil personnel staff members on the individual pupil's progress and development.
  • Maintain attendance accounting and business service as required.
  • Develop and participate in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
  • Act as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of the subject area to other subject areas.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in General Health Sciences.
  • Possession of a current and valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject/content area issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary: $65,000-$107,010
  • Employment Period: Ten (10) Months
  • Union Affiliation: Newark Teacher's Union (NTU)
