Civilian Police Cadet

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Civilian Police Cadets. As a Cadet, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in law enforcement, while working closely with our experienced officers and staff.

• Attend classes and maintain comprehensive notebooks to ensure thorough understanding of course material.
• Participate in physical, firearms, and defensive tactics training programs, and practical application problem solving to develop essential skills.
• Comply with established City of Bastrop Employee Handbook, Bastrop Police Department General Orders, and all other rules, regulations, and procedures as adopted by the Department.

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age upon graduating from the Police Academy.
• Meet Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer requirements.
• Pass medical, psychological exams, physical fitness, and any other testing requirements.
• Pass a thorough background investigation.
• Successfully complete a 1-year probationary period.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
• Agrees to the terms and conditions as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding Related to Peace Officer Recruiting and Commitment to Serve for Peace Officers within the City of Bastrop Police Department.
• Possess a Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License or higher with an acceptable driving record.
• Good communication skills and strong computer skills.

• May work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• May work around strong odors, smoke from fires, strong and/or toxic chemical fumes, dust, or pollen.
• May work in and/or around standard office conditions.
• May work around biohazards.
• May work around electrical and mechanical hazards.
• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
• Use of manual dexterity.
• Climbing of stairs.
• Climbing of ladders.
• Lifting and moving.
