Job Summary

Central Arizona College, a diverse and innovative institution, is located in Pinal County, Arizona, a rapidly expanding business and residential community with a student population in excess of 12,000 on five major campuses and two centers. The college offers a unique opportunity for faculty members to teach at multiple sites, via distance learning (ITV, online, etc.) and traditional classroom instruction, possibly evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Commercial Electrician Installer courses utilizing the NCCER Core Curriculum, Electrical Trade, Safety, Electrical Circuits & Theory, the National Electrical Code, Device Boxes, Basic Electrical Construction Drawings, Test Equipment, Alternating Current, Motor Theory & Application, Lighting, Conduit Bending, and OSHA 30. The faculty member will also be expected to:

  • Provide and present information, content, and context through lecture, laboratory, recitation, seminars, and/or other learning venues utilizing a variety of teaching/learning styles as appropriate to the course content.
  • Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluates grades and comments on student work in order to facilitate and ensure student progress throughout the course.
  • Establish and maintain office hours per college policy. Maintain records of student progress and performance; completes and returns required reports to the appropriate office by established due date.
  • Review and update course outlines, text selection, and syllabi in cooperation with other faculty and appropriate district academic chair or program director.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students through the development and implementation of teaching and learning strategies primarily in the instructional setting.
  • Cultivate development of instructional programs and knowledge of trends, pedagogy, andragogy, and new technologies.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess current industry certification and five years of occupational experience. An Associate's degree with more than 5 years of experience and certified to teach/train OSHA10 and OSHA30 level classes is also desirable. The ability to collaborate with outside construction companies/agencies in an effort to enhance and grow the Industrial Carpentry program is a plus.

The successful candidate will be expected to be current in subject area and possess the ability to develop, prepare, and evaluate instructional materials that promote learning, along with the willingness to utilize alternative teaching techniques and instructional technology where appropriate. The candidate should also demonstrate the willingness and capacity to cooperate in a professional and courteous manner with other college employees and students.
