Job Title: Custodian/Maintenance Worker

This is a full-time, non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor. The primary responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the Head Start Center classrooms, offices, and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare purchase orders for supplies and equipment and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain the surrounding area of the offices and centers, including mowing the grass, weeding, planting, and pruning bushes.
  • Clean and disinfect classrooms, offices, and bathrooms, including sweeping, mopping, and polishing tile floors, vacuuming carpeted floors, and dusting or wiping down office cabinets, tables, and furniture.
  • Wash interior and exterior glass, including display cases, mirrors, glass doors, and windows.
  • Empty wastebaskets and replace them with new liners and dispose of trash daily.
  • Perform daily safety checks and maintain outdoor playground equipment and other toys, keeping them clean, safe, and in good working order.
  • Assist classroom staff with laundering blankets, sheets, clothing, stuffed animals, or other soft materials.
  • Collaborate with the Yurok Tribe Childcare Program, including working in the Child Care Classroom as needed to meet teacher-child ratios and attending joint trainings.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to properly use and maintain equipment and tools needed for the position.
  • Knowledge of necessary precautions when dealing with cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People, one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture, and values.
