Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents, adhering to their assessment and care plans, while following directives from supervisory staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report any changes in residents' conditions to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse promptly.
- Assist residents with daily oral hygiene tasks, including brushing teeth and caring for dentures.
- Support residents during bathing activities, whether bed baths or showers, as required.
- Aid residents in dressing and undressing as needed.
- Provide assistance with hair care, including combing and shampooing.
- Facilitate nail care, ensuring proper clipping and cleaning of fingernails and toenails.
Additional Duties:
- Maintain cleanliness and grooming for residents, including shaving as instructed.
- Ensure residents remain dry by performing incontinent care, changing gowns, clothing, and linens when necessary.
- Change bed linens, ensuring they are tight to prevent wrinkles.
- Make both occupied and unoccupied beds, adding extra covers upon request.
- Position bedfast residents comfortably and correctly.
- Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions, including bathroom visits and use of bedpans or urinals.
- Document and report bowel movements and stool characteristics as directed.
Engagement and Mobility:
- Help residents prepare for activities and social events, such as church services and visits.
- Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents to and from beds, chairs, bathtubs, and wheelchairs.
- Support residents in walking with or without mobility aids as instructed.
- Implement restorative and rehabilitative procedures as directed.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or be enrolled in a Temporary Nursing Assistant Program.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for residents are required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and exemplify teamwork principles is necessary.
- Must be capable of making independent decisions when required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with residents, families, visitors, and healthcare personnel are crucial.
- Patience, tact, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm are essential, especially when dealing with challenging residents.
- Ability to communicate information regarding residents' conditions effectively.
