Job Summary

The Plant Technician is a critical role in our operations, responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance, basic repair, and cleaning of all equipment associated with bioprocessing processes. This position requires a strong understanding of process flow, computerized equipment, and hazards associated with the process, as well as the ability to execute standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate all processes associated with the plant, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs of plant equipment, documenting activities and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Operate the Distributed Control System (DCS) for the plant, monitoring and controlling process variables to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Safely perform basic electrical troubleshooting and follow procedures for plant start-up, shut-down, cleaning, and batching.
  • Maintain accurate and timely logs, collecting and testing quality control samples, and interpreting QA/QC results to optimize plant operations.
  • Assist in removal, installation, rebuild, and performance of preventive and predictive maintenance on all equipment associated with plant processes.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to sanitation schedules and completing tasks as assigned.
  • Notify management of safety, environmental, quality, and production concerns, problems, and opportunities.
  • Maintain a team environment, fostering a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance, and championing POET in the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in a production environment preferred, with documented successful performance as a Plant Technician I or equivalent work experience required for higher-level positions.
  • Working knowledge in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience with software systems such as Maximo preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations.

Work Environment

POET is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment, with a culture that values teamwork, communication, and safety. This role requires working in multiple environments, including plant, laboratory, and office settings, with exposure to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hazardous material suit, hearing protection, and harness.
  • Ability to work at extreme heights (approximately 150 ft), in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees Fahrenheit, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to use equipment/tools such as forklifts, power washers, pallet jacks, hoist systems, scissor lifts, JLG lifts, telehandlers, Front End Loaders, various hand tools, and computers.
