Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at Flatiron Construction. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects by monitoring project budget and estimates, selecting and applying resource monitoring and control principles, and providing technical input for project work plans and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with engineering and field crews to review production schedules and confirm materials, equipment, and resources are available for production to continue on schedule and within budget.
  • Review shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data to ensure quality and contract specification compliance.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements of production, materials, equipment, or process that could negatively impact the budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to accurately track project performance and document daily activities in Company-approved methods and technologies.
  • Update project schedules weekly for owner and management reporting and attend weekly owner meetings to present on project production status as needed.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by management and prepare and manage three-week work plans, notifying engineering and project management of any significant schedule changes and developing solutions to mitigate delays and cost.
  • Initiate and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed by project and remit accurate project quantities using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported.
  • Manage invoicing with Company accounting team regarding materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs and support the engineering team with quality assurance as needed.
  • Review required Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to ensure a safe and compliant work environment for all construction personnel and participate in all weekly safety meetings with field teams and project leadership, presenting field analysis as needed.
  • Assist the estimating team with project schedule, budget, and cost parameters by providing technical input as needed and assist in the development of design drawings and provide technical input as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as needed and reconcile job close-out checklists with owner representatives and field crews at the end of the project.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  • 3+ years of construction engineering experience required.
  • Experience in resource monitoring techniques (i.e., cost accounting, basic estimating) and construction technology, process systems, and/or structures preferred.
  • Able to identify budget and project costs and recommend options to mitigate project delays.
  • Possess verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of design build and other alternative build techniques.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting methods, quantity tracking methods, and cost coding.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management preferred.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
