Job Overview

As a key member of the SPIN Boston team, the Banquet Captain will serve as the primary point of contact between the events team and our clients. This role requires exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the banquet team in providing exceptional service to guests during events, ensuring a positive experience for all.
  • Coordinate food and beverage services to ensure seamless execution and timely delivery.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, responding promptly to guest requests and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the events team to plan and execute events, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ensure all event areas are clean and well-maintained, with all equipment and furniture in proper order.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of events, including buffet and special food service tables.
  • Monitor and maintain public areas, ensuring they are neat and clean at all times.
  • Inspect event areas at the end of each function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper place and all areas are clean.
  • Plan and coordinate opening and closing assignments for the serving team.
  • Create floor plans to ensure each event has a designated server and that all guests are properly seated.
  • Stay up-to-date on menu offerings and be able to explain the preparation methods and ingredients for each dish.
  • Understand Banquet Event Orders to ensure safe and efficient event setup and breakdown.
  • Complete prep and side work efficiently to allow for focused attention on guest care during events.
  • Greet event hosts and review event orders to ensure accuracy and meet guest expectations.
  • Introduce event hosts to assigned wait staff and review event orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the events team and the kitchen.
  • Respond promptly to guest questions, requests, and concerns with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Interact with event hosts and guests during events to ensure their satisfaction and meet any additional requirements.
  • Have a working knowledge of pricing for food and drink extensions to effectively upsell and meet guest needs.
  • Ensure clarification of payment for all additional add-on tabs.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading in a banquet environment.
  • Ability to listen and resolve customer complaints while achieving high customer service standards.
  • Suggestive selling skills.
  • Self-starter with accuracy and speed in executing all assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all staff.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds, and work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Flexibility with work schedules.
