Energy Management Role at City of Somerville

The City of Somerville is a national leader in climate action, aiming to create an equitable, resilient, thriving, and carbon net-negative city.

This position plays a crucial role in supporting the city's vision by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from municipal and school building operations. The successful candidate will develop and implement strategic plans for cost-effective energy utilization in buildings and fleet operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the reduction of energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions through data management, facilities operation, behavior changes, and capital projects.
  • Research best practices, propose solutions, and identify strategies for energy efficiency and decarbonization measures.
  • Provide technical input on energy efficiency and decarbonization measures for projects and purchases.
  • Measure, track, report, and evaluate progress using tools like MassEnergyInsight and Portfolio Manager.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal stakeholders, community members, state agencies, and energy utilities.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or environmental engineering, architecture, business, or related discipline.
  • Five to seven years of experience in energy management, mechanical systems design, construction, and/or maintenance, or related work experience.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional, LEED, Certified Carbon Reduction Manager, and/or Certified Energy Auditor certifications are preferred.

Working Environment:

  • The work environment involves everyday office activities with occasional exposure to outside elements.
  • Employee may work beyond normal business hours to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments.

Total Rewards:

  • Estimated annual salary: $88,326.
