Position Overview
The Software and Controls Automation Engineering Manager will leverage their extensive software and controls knowledge along with exceptional organizational and planning abilities. The aim is to equip software and controls engineers with the necessary tools, methodologies, and standards to achieve both company and individual engineering development goals while adhering to timelines, budget constraints, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

- Assess and manage team workload against project demands, collaborating with delivery leaders to optimize resource allocation.
- Regularly review development and unit testing standards, working collaboratively with team members to enhance development and testing methodologies.
- Ensure teams are aligned with delivery goals and utilize project management tools to complete assignments within established timelines and budgets.
- Assist engineers in making optimal architectural decisions based on project requirements.
- Facilitate effective and timely communication and collaboration both within and between teams.
- Oversee and report on team productivity and quality metrics.
- Organize, prioritize, and detail work assignments for team members.
- Verify that technical drawings and specifications comply with company standards.
- Supervise daily operations and performance of assigned personnel.
- Direct the daily design and integration of controls, automation, and electrical systems to meet quality, cost, and innovation targets.
- Encourage collaboration with other departments, including project management, quality assurance, and production.
- Represent the organization professionally in interactions with clients, engineers, and project managers.
- Continuously assess team capabilities and develop coaching and growth plans to help team members reach their personal and professional aspirations.
- Provide training on new processes, tools, and architectural design strategies.
- Maintain accurate labor reporting for both internal and external projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline; experience in a manufacturing engineering context is advantageous.
- Over 10 years of management experience in software and controls engineering (or equivalent).
- At least 5 years of engineering experience in controls, automation, and electrical systems design and integration.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing automation equipment.
- Familiarity with machine programming systems and methodologies.
- Skilled in managing software engineers proficient in Procedural and Object-Oriented Programming Languages, as well as data transaction systems like SQL Server and Postgres.
- Provide expertise and best practices for controls logic and SCADA telemetry protocols.
- Experience in establishing and managing version control tools for software and controls.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and provide guidance on adherence to standards for quality improvement.
- Knowledge of ISO, ANSI, CSA, and other relevant electrical safety regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred experience includes over 5 years in project engineering.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
- Understanding of Bill of Materials and MRP systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
