Main Function:
As a Medical Office Assistant at Arnot Health, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support services. Your primary responsibility will be to perform a variety of medical office support services for Outpatient Services, ensuring seamless coordination and efficient execution of daily tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Check In Functions:
a. Prepare and distribute daily schedules to ensure timely and accurate patient care.
b. Answer incoming calls professionally and route medically related calls to the appropriate care provider.
c. Prepare charts for appointments and update patient demographic information.
d. Sort and distribute mail according to office protocol.
2. Check Out Functions:
a. Make necessary appointments per provider instructions and ensure accurate documentation.
b. Prepare orders for testing and obtain prior authorizations as required.
c. Provide patients with test instructions and education materials as needed.
d. Document follow-up appointments and encounters in the medical record.
3. Billing:
a. Verify demographic information and update computer records.
b. Ensure accurate and complete information on encounter forms for billing purposes.
c. Track encounters and associate them with daily visits.
4. Patient Support:
a. Prepare patients for exams and procedures, taking vital signs as needed.
b. Perform phlebotomy and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization.
c. Assist providers during exams and procedures, under direct supervision.
d. Participate in patient-centered care teams to optimize patient health and well-being.
5. Medical Documentation:
a. Transcribe notes and update medical records as necessary.
b. File and scan results according to protocol.
c. Process medical records requests according to established procedures.
6. Care Team Participation:
a. Participate in care team processes, including team meetings and electronic messaging.
b. Contribute to performance evaluations and quality assurance activities.
7. Other:
a. Assist administrators, providers, and other staff with practice-related functions.
b. Maintain professional behavior and appearance.
c. Ensure awareness of patient, coworker, and self safety (OSHA compliance).
d. Participate in annual mandatory educational programs and contribute to the process as needed.
Education:
High school graduate and completion of one year training as a Medical Assistant preferred.
Experience:
Minimum three years experience as a Medical Office Assistant preferred, with experience in coding helpful.
CPR Requirements:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
Physical Demands:
Light physical effort, typical of an office job.
Exposure Category:
Category I, involving exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
