Genetic Counselor

St. Joseph's Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team. As a Genetic Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing access to quality care for patients and families at risk for cancer.

The Oncology Clinical Genetics Nurse Navigator (NN)/Genetic Counselor (GC) functions to provide access to quality care for patients and families at risk for cancer. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, this provider assists patients along the continuum of care from exploration of familial risk, diagnosis of genetic risk, high-risk physical findings, prevention strategies, diagnosis and through treatment and survivorship.

• Meet with patients and family members for individual cancer risk assessment sessions
• Discuss basic genetics, risk for cancer development based on family/personal history
• Discuss genetic testing procedures and possible test results
• Provide medical management implications of genetic test results

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through a Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics or closely related field. Two to three years of work-related experience required. Genetic Counselor credentialing license required (must meet Commission on Cancer (CoC) standard).

Must have analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, attention to detail and problem resolution. Must possess strong customer service, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficient in EMR (EPIC/Cerner) and Microsoft products.
