Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing primary, secondary, and rehabilitative care to students in public schools, homes, and communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing and experience working in a school health setting.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and manage the school health program in assigned schools, including establishing and evaluating health services policies and procedures.
Provide assessment, planning, and evaluation of health services components of the school health program.
Provide or arrange for routine health assessments and ensure mandated health-related activities are completed.
Serve as coordinator of the health services program and provide nursing care, health education to students, staff, and parents, and manage student health records.
Liaise between students, parents, school personnel, physicians, hospitals, and the Exceptional Children's Program regarding health issues and student health care plans.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others, deal tactfully with others, and exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions.
Ability to work in partnership with patients and other service providers to elicit needed information and maintain effective working relationships.
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of school health nursing experience and at least one year of experience in a hospital-type setting.
Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master's in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC
