We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Associate Professor of Coaching-Athletics to join our team at San Joaquin Delta College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching organized classes in the athletics discipline, with a primary focus on instructing up to 10 units (part-time) in the assigned discipline.
Responsibilities and Duties- Instruct courses in athletics in accordance with credit course outlines approved by the Board of Trustees.
- Act as an assistant coach to assigned sport.
- Assist head coach with sport-related coaching duties, including on-field coaching assignments, recruiting, scouting, fundraising, and public relations.
- Recommend equipment purchase and care.
- Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline-specific technologies.
- Assist students in achieving stated course objectives, evaluate student progress, and provide counseling services and/or tutorial assistance as needed.
- Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and assessment of student learning outcomes to ensure program success.
- Support the Division Dean in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and information relevant to student needs.
- Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks, audiovisual, and other instructional materials.
- Complete various reporting procedures as required for student evaluation, course reporting, and budget development.
- Assist the Division Dean in preparing required reports by providing requested information.
- Attend departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities and events as required.
- Plan and complete approved professional development flex activities each semester.
- Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Experience instructing online classes.
- Ability to outreach to local high schools, universities, and the community.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to students from different cultures and ethnic groups.
- Demonstrated ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques and equipment, including multimedia hardware and software, and online instructional techniques.
- Demonstrated collegiality within the campus and community environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current in the field.
- Experience in teaching postsecondary courses in athletics.
- Demonstrated expertise in coaching and teaching.
- Possess Heart Association or Red Cross Certificates in First Aid and CPR, or obtain by the completion of the first year of employment.
- Demonstrated Secondary and/or Postsecondary coaching experience.
- Demonstrated exemplary teaching practices in coaching, physical education, and health education.
- Demonstrated Postsecondary teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to coach/teach a variety of sports.
- Demonstrated leadership in developing curriculum for discipline-specific courses and/or programs.
- Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current in the field.
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to work with business and industry to coordinate the educational program with community needs.
