Position Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Advanced Practice Physician Assistant (PA) serves as a crucial member of the healthcare team, dedicated to enhancing and safeguarding patient health. Key Responsibilities

The PA is responsible for:

  • Conducting patient examinations, diagnosing conditions, and determining treatment plans.
  • Analyzing and interpreting diagnostic tests, including x-rays and laboratory results.
  • Prescribing medications and managing patient histories.
  • Providing surgical assistance and coordinating various therapeutic interventions.
  • Working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with the ability to operate independently or as part of a collaborative treatment team.
Essential Functions

Clinical Leadership: The PA demonstrates leadership by acting as a clinical resource and patient advocate. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborating with healthcare professionals.
  • Serving as a mentor for PA students and medical residents.
  • Facilitating effective communication within the healthcare team.

Patient Care Coordination: The PA coordinates timely and appropriate patient care, focusing on optimal outcomes tailored to individual patient needs. This includes:

  • Driving improvements in patient satisfaction through adherence to service standards.
  • Responding promptly to patient inquiries and addressing urgent care needs.

Quality and Safety: The PA performs essential functions under physician supervision, such as:

  • Conducting thorough health assessments and developing comprehensive care plans.
  • Implementing safety protocols and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Documentation and Compliance: Accurate and timely documentation in medical records is critical, including:

  • Maintaining compliance with coding and billing standards.
  • Participating in departmental strategies to achieve financial targets.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience is required.

Licenses and Certifications: Candidates must possess:

  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure
  • Health Services PA-C certification
  • Prescriptive Authority from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • DEA Narcotics License (to be obtained within six months)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
