Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at MLS Technologies. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative hydraulic systems and components for our marine clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analysis and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and sustaining production of existing designs.
  • Create and review new designs for conformance to customer requirements and proper application of engineering principles.
  • Apply, evaluate, and optimize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to facilitate inspection and manufacturing.
  • Write test plans and test reports in support of new programs to demonstrate compliance to customer specifications.
  • Interact with customers to clarify design intent and technical requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, orderly project records, including design and test data, customer specifications, and directives.
  • Develop technical proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for non-recurring engineering activities.
  • Direct fellow engineers, designers, and drafters in design concepts and optimization to meet strict deadlines.
  • Provide direction and assistance on development and qualification test programs.
  • Serve as engineering representative on the Material Review Board (MRB) to facilitate disposition of non-conforming product.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with at least 5 years related work experience (post-graduation).
  • Proficiency in stress analysis (FEA) and tolerance analysis and GD&T, fatigue analysis, fastener analysis, and material and process control.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Pro/Engineer or CREO preferred).
  • Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Mathcad, MATLAB, LabVIEW software proficiency.
  • Familiarity with electronic or hydraulic control system design.
  • Self-starter who demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting customer expectations and delivering results.
  • Ability to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems and communicate in clear, simple terms.
  • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with at least 7 years related work experience (post-graduation).
  • Work experience directly related to hydraulic component design and/or manufacture and test.
  • Prior exposure to metal forming and manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Mechanical aptitude displayed through personal hobbies or projects.
  • Proficiency in DMAIC (or equivalent) problem-solving methodology.
