Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Supervisor will oversee and direct the operations of the Medical/Surgical Orthopedic Department. This role entails a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of nursing care through effective leadership and management.
The Supervisor is tasked with the oversight, coordination, and assessment of nursing services delivered within the designated unit(s). This position plays a critical role in ensuring that care is provided safely and efficiently. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor collaborates with the Department Director to implement quality improvement initiatives, adhere to hospital policies and procedures, and manage the financial aspects of the unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in departmental performance enhancement initiatives.
- Conduct interviews and facilitate the hiring process for nursing personnel.
- Develop and manage nursing staff schedules.
- Act as a clinical resource for the nursing team.
- Advocate for nursing staff and their professional needs.
- Assess and evaluate staff performance regularly.
- Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, counseling, and professional development.
- Contribute to the financial management of the unit.
- Assist in the financial planning and budgeting processes for the unit.
- Organize and lead staff meetings.
- Coordinate unit-specific training and in-service sessions.
- Oversee clinical operations within the assigned unit, ensuring compliance with age-specific care standards.
- Maintain 24-hour accountability for the management, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of unit activities and services.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for process improvements within the department and across departments.

Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); advanced degrees are preferred.
- 3-5 years of recent leadership experience in an acute care setting, specifically within the Medical-Surgical unit.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Texas or a Compact State, if applicable.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is mandatory.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- National certification in the relevant specialty area is preferred.
