Counselor/Mediator - Family Law Specialist

Job Summary:

Counselors/Mediators at the Arizona Superior Court in Pima County provide professional level counseling and family law alternative dispute resolution services to Conciliation Court clients and Pima County residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct legal decision making and parenting time evaluations and parenting coordination services to families as referred by the Court and prepare written summaries and reports.
  • Conduct interviews with children independently or in the presence of Judges to elicit information regarding children's wishes, concerns, or needs.
  • Observe and evaluate social interplay between family members, make assessments of home environments and family dynamics and prepare recommendations for child custody and/or parenting time.
  • Review psychological reports, legal, school, civil, counseling and law enforcement records and prepare reports summarizing findings.
  • Initiate appropriate referrals to community resources and social service agencies.
  • Deliver educational presentations to parents, schools, agencies, community groups and conferences on topics related to marriage, divorce, and child custody issues.
  • Evaluate client services through development and implementation of surveys, questionnaires, and other appropriate research tools.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in behavioral science or social science field, or a closely related field and two years of post graduate direct service experience in couples, marriage, divorce or family counseling.
  • Preference may be given to those who hold a current license by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners or by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners.

Work Environment:

Typically performs duties in an office environment and may lift materials and/or equipment 20 lbs or less. May be required to travel to clients' residences and perform home assessments and inspections if necessary.

Education Reimbursement Program:

Full-time employees of government organizations may be able to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
