Job Title: Cytology Specialist

Location: Remote

Hours/Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 1st shift

Type: Contract (1-year renewable contract)

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of new methods and evaluate quality to provide guidance on the correct use of cytology specimens and the interpretation of slides made from cytology specimens.
  • Compare cytology methodologies and results to Pap testing, and review slide staining.
  • Guide product development to achieve the highest possible performance, collaborate with Pathologists, and support Quality Control (QC) method development for cytology specimens.

Key Tasks:

  • Perform analytical techniques on specimens from various sources, including cervical swabs, sputum, urine, other body fluids, and fine needle aspirates.
  • Qualify incoming samples for testing.
  • Evaluate immunocytochemistry (ICC) biomarkers for proof of concept, feasibility, verification, and validation studies/activities associated with new product development.
  • Perform and evaluate cytology techniques like Pap staining and provide results to scientists on the project.
  • Maintain records as needed.
  • Provide suggestions to improve work processes.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective action for reagent or instrument-related issues that may arise in sample processing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP (The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited cytotechnology training program.
  • 7 years of experience in cytology, including cytology techniques and methods.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Gynecological experience is preferred.
