PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Healthcare Financial Advisor plays a crucial role in assisting uninsured and underinsured patients and community members. This includes conducting intake assessments, determining eligibility, and aiding in the completion of applications for various healthcare programs.

The advisor provides advocacy, education, and necessary follow-up to ensure patients have access to essential healthcare services.

They connect eligible clients with affordable primary and specialty care services and engage in outreach efforts to enhance community awareness of available healthcare resources.

The Healthcare Financial Advisor is tasked with helping patients manage their hospital bills, implementing the hospital's financial assistance and discount policies, collecting payments, and establishing payment plans while exercising sound judgment and problem-solving skills.

This position reports to the Manager of Patient Accounts and operates within established organizational and departmental guidelines.

KEY FUNCTIONS:


- Screen and assist uninsured and underinsured patients to enroll in available governmental and community health programs.

- Maintain a thorough understanding of eligibility and documentation requirements for various governmental programs.
- Identify patient healthcare needs and develop strategies to address care gaps.
- Follow up with clients to ensure successful enrollment and access to necessary healthcare services.
- Advocate for clients with governmental agencies, insurers, and other relevant entities.
- Screen patients for eligibility for uncompensated care.
- Assist clients in applying for pharmacy assistance programs.
- Communicate effectively with staff to gather and share information.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Stay informed about community healthcare resources.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and manage sensitive information responsibly.
- Provide pricing estimates and information regarding financial assistance to patients.
- Collaborate with pre-registration departments regarding payment amounts due.
- Educate patients about their financial responsibilities.
- Adhere to hospital policies regarding credit, collections, and financial assistance.
- Serve as a model for exemplary customer service and uphold the hospital's code of conduct.
- Complete annual competency and retraining requirements.
- Attend required meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree or a minimum of three years of relevant experience preferred.

- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are advantageous.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with patients regarding payment policies are essential.
