Job Summary

Trinity Health is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Intern to join our team at MercyOne Ankeny Pharmacy. As a Pharmacy Intern, you will play a vital role in providing technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process patient drug orders and prepare medications for delivery.
  • Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
  • Review patient medication administration records (MAR) and care plans to determine the need to return medication to the pharmacy for credit.
  • Pick up medication orders from nursing areas and distribute them for processing.
  • Credit to the patient and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
  • File medication orders and fill unit-dose exchange envelopes.
  • Process medication drawers and orders files for admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
  • Restock automated medication dispensing machines (AcuDose or Pyxis).
  • Enter fill stock requisitions for other departments.
  • Restock tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and complete the check-in/out process.
  • Communicate stock utilization and ordering needs.
  • Check medication expiration dates and alert pharmacists when necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program, or proof of verbal commitment to a pharmacy school or program.
  • Registered as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa at the time of hire, or registered as a Technician in Training for up to 12 months until able to apply for Intern status after first day of pharmacy school or program.
  • May also be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until Intern status can be obtained.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of mandatory reporter within three (3) months of hire.
