Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mortgage Loan Officer plays a crucial role in generating mortgage financing solutions, fostering relationships, and establishing new referral networks. This position is pivotal in ensuring credit quality and maximizing fee income, ultimately contributing to an exceptional client experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mortgage Loan Generation / Business Development - 80%

  • Generate high-quality mortgage loans in alignment with bank policies and growth objectives, including the acquisition of new business relationships and the enhancement of existing client connections.
  • Address inquiries from potential clients regarding various mortgage and construction loan options, while providing comprehensive information about the organization’s lending practices.
  • Facilitate the mortgage application process by collecting necessary documentation, submitting applications, securing approvals, and ensuring clear communication with the processing team.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the bank to cultivate optimal client relationships.
  • Input data into origination software and utilize underwriting automation effectively.
  • Work alongside processors and servicers to exceed client expectations.
  • Manage lender social media accounts in partnership with the Marketing department.

Regulatory Compliance - 10%

  • Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring all documentation is compliant and deadlines are met.
  • Verify the accuracy of all mortgage loan disclosures sent to borrowers.
  • Assist in rectifying any compliance deficiencies related to mortgage loans.
  • Serve as a resource for bank personnel regarding mortgage loan inquiries.
  • Provide recommendations to supervisors for enhancing departmental operations.
  • Participate in risk assessment reviews as needed.
  • Stay updated on required training and compliance standards.

Additional Responsibilities - 10%

  • Achieve referral targets as outlined by your supervisor.
  • Support other banking activities as part of the overall team.

In the course of performing your duties, you will frequently move within the office environment to access files and attend meetings. The role requires proficiency in operating a computer, handling objects, and effective communication both in person and over the phone. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be necessary with assistance. Travel to various locations may be required as needed. Specific vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Underwriting experience is advantageous.
  • A comprehensive understanding of mortgage loan products and underwriting standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to mortgage processing.
  • Experience with Encompass, Desktop Underwriter, and Loan Prospector is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in common software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Skills necessary for a typical office environment, including computer literacy and familiarity with office equipment.
