Metropolitan Ministries is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Transition Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of our residents and community clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide educational support to residents and community clients by serving as a liaison between families, schools, and other educational institutions.
  • Meet regularly with parents to determine and assist with school needs.
  • Coordinate middle and high school enrollments for new families.
  • Introduce and facilitate opportunities for parental involvement.
  • Assist with student transfers to new schools after move-outs.
  • Participate in home visits and data collection.
  • Coordinate data collection for First Hug families with the HELP team and Case Managers.
  • Assist and facilitate education progress and staffing for children with special needs.
  • Travel to schools and other educational settings to advocate for students and their needs.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Project Promise tutors from SDHC and assist with data collection.
  • Participate in program team meetings and advocate for youth's educational needs.
  • Understand county, state, and federal guidelines governing homeless education rights and special education.
  • Take initiative in selecting and attending workshops, conferences, and seminars to upgrade professional development skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule to ensure client/program needs are met.
  • Participate in Metropolitan Ministries holiday efforts and other fund-raising events as needed.
  • Keep confidential records and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Support the team, Program Manager, and Director in other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral or Social Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in social services or education.
  • Direct experience working with children and parents required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
  • Experience related to working with homeless families preferred.
