General Overview: Under the supervision and guidance of a mentor/preceptor, this entry-level role focuses on acquiring the essential competencies necessary to provide specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology services to both adult and pediatric patient populations. The primary goal is to assist medical professionals in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring a range of conditions, defects, and diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are fundamental to the role. Failure to perform these duties, with or without accommodation, may lead to disqualification from the position.
  • Employing foundational knowledge, skills, and available resources to deliver safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care in various settings, including acute care facilities, outpatient practices, diagnostic centers, and remote clinics.
  • Preparing patients for procedures and aligning clinical histories with the procedures ordered by physicians.
  • Engaging and collaborating with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams to identify and implement necessary actions to achieve desired clinical outcomes and operational goals.
  • Utilizing specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic equipment and techniques to conduct a variety of diagnostic, interventional, and/or surgical procedures in accordance with established practice guidelines.
  • Conducting post-procedure reviews with or without a preceptor to ensure all required elements are completed and documented, maintaining technical quality in line with departmental protocols and accreditation standards.
  • Transferring images and data to appropriate archival systems, entering technical findings, and preparing studies for physician reporting.
  • Performing operator-level quality control checks, cleaning, high-level disinfection, and other maintenance as per manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Participating in ongoing education, professional development, and research activities to uphold competencies and promote continuous improvements in care and treatment.
General Duties:
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree or higher. Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program with a focus on a primary cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty as recognized by ARDMS, ARRT, and/or CCI (candidates nearing graduation from an approved program may be considered for employment).
Experience: Not applicable.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations Required: Must meet eligibility criteria and standards for ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI in the cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty as required by the hiring department. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Based on specific assignments, proficiency in applying principles of cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, patient positioning, and medical ethics is essential. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow instructions is crucial; consistent and dependable attendance is expected. Sensitivity to patients' physical and psychological needs is necessary. Ability to maintain accurate records and work with names, numbers, and codes is required. Ability to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations is essential. Discretion in handling confidential information and sound judgment are vital. Must be capable of multitasking and remaining composed in stressful situations. Understanding of various operations, policies, and procedures is necessary. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and their families in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner is expected. A high level of initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently is required. Ability to work independently and demonstrate attention to detail is essential.

Core knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, as well as cardiovascular and/or radiologic technologies and terminology associated with the primary specialty for which hired and credentialed, is required. Skills to apply core-level primary specialty theory, practices, and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze, and annotate study data or procedure documentation with general supervision or assistance are necessary.
