- Work with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
- Frequently function guided by nursing protocols.
- Function as a team leader as assigned.
- Demonstrate competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+).
- Identify inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implement prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.
- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient.
- Utilize effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
- Use current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients.
- Maintain current professional skills and continues professional growth to enhance the practice of correctional nursing and the image of the organization.
- Adhere to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit.
- Maintain required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for the nursing personnel of the health care unit and assumes responsibility for his/her continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of co-workers.
- Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Certifications/Licenses: RN License to practice in the State of New Jersey. CPR Certification required. Valid Driver's License is required.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing (BSN). Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
