Job Summary

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Pathology Assistant 2 to join our team. This full-time position is located in the UM Medical Campus, Health District.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and dissection of surgical specimens under the direction of a pathologist.
  • Prepare and select tissue samples for analysis, handle tissue banking, and examine surgical pathology specimens, resections, and autopsies.
  • Record findings and sterilize equipment.
  • Perform gross examinations and dissections of anatomic pathology specimens.
  • Conduct postmortem examinations and prepare bodies for release to funeral homes.
  • Prepare tissue for various pathological tests, including frozen section, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemical staining.
  • Photograph gross and microscopic specimens, assist with educational conferences, and provide training to pathology personnel.
  • Prepare medical records and histories for each examinee.
  • Obtain legal authorization for patient autopsies.
  • Collaborate with other departments and laboratories to ensure quality healthcare.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge, skills, and attitudes include:

    • Confidentiality and discretion.
    • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.

  • Department-specific qualifications include:
    • Completion of a NAACLS-accredited training program for PAs.
    • National certification required, PA(ASCP) preferred.
    • 3-5 years of experience required.
    • LIS proficiency.
    • Proven leadership experience.
