Key Responsibilities:


Assists in various obstetric procedures, including cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extractions, forceps deliveries, tubal ligations, dilation and curettage (D&C), circumcisions, and emergency OB-related abdominal hysterectomies.

Maintains comprehensive knowledge of setups for each procedure.

Participates in scrubbing for obstetric procedures, applying aseptic surgical techniques to establish and maintain a sterile field, preparing materials, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, assisting with gowning and gloving, draping sterile areas, and passing instruments and supplies.

Assists with delivery procedures, preparing the area according to obstetric provider preferences.
Engages in direct patient care activities, addressing daily living needs, comfort, and safety requirements.
Serves as a resource for training technicians, nursing staff, and others in the use of equipment and procedures.
Maintains inventory of sterile surgical supplies and instruments, ensuring the unit is ready for emergencies.
Responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, and stocking of equipment.
Reports and documents accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions to the appropriate personnel.

Collaborates with operating room staff, clinical nurse specialists, educators, and peers in preparation for equipment and procedure implementation, as well as emergency situations.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Must possess understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpreting the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs, and providing care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:
Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated by the State Registry where the team member practices, and

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within six months unless determined otherwise by the department leader.


Education Requirements:
Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of an accredited or approved Nursing Assistant program.

Experience Requirements:
No prior experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Basic computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.

Successful completion of on-the-job training.
Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Ability to multitask amidst frequent interruptions.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lifting up to 20 lbs. overhead, carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, pushing/pulling with 30 lbs. of force, and performing a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to push or pull 100 lbs.
Will be required to use foot pedals on carts and machines.
Will be required to wear protective clothing.
Will be exposed to various hazards on a continuous basis, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during the work shift.
Must have functional sight and hearing.
Operate all necessary equipment to perform job duties.
