King County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Juvenile Detention Officer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing safe and secure custody of juveniles, ensuring their access to health and mental health services, as well as educational resources and exercise.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Safe and Secure Custody: Ensure the well-being and safety of juveniles in our care, while maintaining a secure environment.
- Health and Wellness: Provide access to health and mental health services, as well as educational resources and exercise.
- Behavior Management: Manage behavior and diffuse disruptive behaviors through problem-solving, crisis intervention, and/or counseling.
- Education and Recreation: Provide educational and/or recreational structured programming, including overseeing programs performed by volunteers/contractors and directly providing programs and groups aimed at teaching pro-social behavior, games, and other activities.
- Education: High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Age: 21 years of age or older.
- Driver's License: Valid Washington state driver's license.
- Language: Ability to read, speak, and write in the English language fluently.
- Physical Ability: Must be physically able to work with juvenile detainees in physical situations throughout employment.
- Experience: Experience working with youth in a paid or voluntary capacity, or experience in the field of criminal justice, ideally working with youth in a correctional or security-oriented environment.
- Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law and Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, or related area of study.
