Healthcare Support Specialist

Incentive: $5000 Sign-on Bonus for CERTIFIED/REGISTERED Medical Assistants

The bonus will be disbursed in three stages:

First payment after 120 days, second after 12 months, and third after 18 months for full-time employees. New hires must remain employed as full-time associates to qualify for the complete sign-on bonus.

Position Overview

The Healthcare Support Specialist is trained in both clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical duties encompass taking vital signs during patient interactions, compiling medical histories, and administering medications under the supervision of a licensed physician. Administrative responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, managing billing, and assisting patients with insurance documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience

  • No prior experience required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT)
  • Current CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education

  • Graduate from an accredited medical assisting program.

Preferred Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.

Core Responsibilities

  • Measure and document vital signs, gather patient medical history, and accurately record information in medical charts.
  • Prepare examination and treatment areas with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain and prepare supplies and equipment for treatments, ensuring proper sterilization.
  • Assist in scheduling tests and treatments.
  • Prepare patients for examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy, finger sticks, and collect other laboratory specimens.
  • Support the provider during examinations and minor office procedures.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Manage and follow up on telephone messages from patients, referrals, and pharmacies.
  • Prepare and send prescriptions electronically as directed by the provider.
  • Conduct waived lab tests, EKGs, and administer injections.
  • Apply dressings and remove sutures as instructed by the provider.
  • Utilize CPR skills when necessary.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste in accordance with state regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Document all activities accurately, legally, and ethically.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of an active role.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and acceptable vision in daily tasks.
  • Possess strong knowledge of organizational dynamics and excellent communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for extended periods, walking, bending, and lifting 30+ lbs.
