About the Excel Tutoring Program

The Excel Tutoring program is an in-person, after-school tutoring initiative in the Cambridge Public Schools. Our goal is to provide high-impact, personalized instruction to students who require additional support in literacy and math.

We use a relationship-based approach to accelerate learning for students who are performing two or more grade levels below expectations. Our program offers:

  • Two, 10-week sessions of small group tutoring at no cost to students
  • Personalized literacy and math instruction based on students' areas of need
  • Celebrations and recognition for student participation and program completion
  • Convenient after-school tutoring at your school site
  • Professional learning and support for tutors
  • One hour of paid preparation time per week
Responsibilities

As an Excel Tutor, you will be assigned a group of up to 4 students requiring additional support in literacy or math. You will collaborate with literacy and/or math coaches to design effective intervention plans aligned with students' areas of need. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating intensive, research-based literacy or math intervention for students
  • Monitoring student progress toward learning goals and sharing information with others using the Branching Minds system
  • Engaging in ongoing professional learning to support high-impact tutoring work
Requirements

We are seeking individuals with a Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. A Bachelor's degree is required, and a teaching license (General Education, Special Education, ESL, and/or Reading) is strongly preferred. Experience facilitating targeted learning experiences for small groups of students and monitoring student progress toward learning goals is also essential.

We value a relationship-focused approach to work with students and a strong belief that all students can learn and a commitment to high expectations for all students. Experience communicating with families and caregivers about student progress toward learning goals is also required.
