Job Summary

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Unit. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with daily activities and participate in patient treatment regimens, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse.
  • Take and monitor patient vital signs, collect specimen samples when needed, and gather clinical data and obtain medical history as required.
  • Perform routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity testing, and administer and read TB tests.
  • Communicate patient needs to and changes in patient behavior or health status to Nurses, Physicians, and family members.
  • Prepare and administer injections and/or enemas, and maintain adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepare exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
  • Answer phone and take messages, perform triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner, and facilitate and assist in the coordination of patient referrals and follow-up appointments.
  • Monitor catheters, prepare patients for transfers or discharge, and provide exceptional patient care and service.

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program
  • Must have a valid driver's license
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
  • Active, full, current, and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), of the United States or the District of Columbia
  • At least one year of successful practice as an LPN/LVN
Preferred Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in acute care and/or long-term care setting
  • Experience with spinal cord injury patients
