Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Eligibility Specialist to join our team at the State of Florida. As an Eligibility Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our client eligibility determination process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify client eligibility in the Florida Medicaid Management Information System (FMMIS) for the purpose of confirming adjunctive eligibility.
  • Interview clients to obtain and verify demographic and income data.
  • Initiate the establishment of client records in the WIC FL WiSE System.
  • Provide federally mandated second nutrition education for low-risk WIC participants on basic nutrition and breastfeeding support, following established protocols and WIC Program procedures and guidelines.
  • Issue cash equivalent EBT benefits according to DMS.
  • Notify clients of expiring certification.
  • Dispense directly distributed infant formula according to established procedures.
  • Answer phone calls and handle all inquiries according to FDOH CHD policies and procedures.
  • Schedule certification, re-certification, and follow-up appointments in WIC FL WiSE system according to established procedures.
  • Follow up on missed appointments and complete reports as directed.
  • Offer clients an opportunity to register to vote according to Federal mandates.
  • Complete a voter preference form for authorized representatives for all certification and re-certification appointments.
  • View FL SHOTS to assess immunization record for targeted groups of clients for immunization status.
  • Refer clients in need of vaccination to Immunization clinic.
  • Explain WIC program eligibility, application procedures, EBT card usage, and return appointment system.
  • Participate in the development of nutrition education displays and materials.
  • Work with Nutrition Education Team to develop lesson plans and materials for educational purposes.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of nutrition education activities.
  • Participate in national and state nutrition and breastfeeding campaigns as related to educational activities.
  • Participate in breastfeeding promotion and support activities.
  • Provide referral to other FDOH CHD services, resources, and other community agencies and programs.
  • Maintain inventories according to established state and agency requirements and procedures.
  • Participate in the training of new employees as directed by supervisor.
  • Provide coverage in satellite clinics and relief coverage in other FDOH CHD centers as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and other staff development activities.
  • Participate in daily clinic operations such as mail distribution and other activities necessary to maintain clinic operations.
  • Participate in WIC outreach activities within FDOH CHD and in the community.
Requirements
  • Skill in presenting information orally.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Windows-based computer software programs, internet, and email.
  • Ability to apply high-level customer service to internal or external customers.
  • Ability to accurately complete standard mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in a comprehensible, focused, and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work and control use of time.
  • Ability to collect, record, and analyze data.
  • Ability to recognize and handle confidential documents.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
Working Conditions

This position works primarily in an office setting and most of the working period is spent in a seated position. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Travel throughout Palm Beach County is required.

This position requires substantial repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, or fingers for sustained periods of time.

Incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects up to 25 lbs.
