Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of equipment and sterile supplies.
  • Monitor personnel, provide direction, and evaluate the performance of the Sterile Processing department.
  • Assist with staffing, training, performance management, compliance, and fiscal management of departmental assets.
  • Implement and evaluate quality improvement plans, ensuring optimal service delivery and patient care.
  • Coordinate daily activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and evaluating and directing work.
  • Facilitate accurate and timely processing of instruments and supply delivery.
  • Act as a liaison with various departments to anticipate customer needs and resolve conflicts or problems.
  • Assist with inventory management for the Operating Room and various departments, ensuring equipment is maintained and serviced.
  • Provide coaching and training to department staff regarding processes, compliance, and documentation while offering ongoing performance feedback.
  • Advise staff on correcting operational errors to promote best practice.
  • Produce department-specific reports as required.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding employee performance and participate in performance evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, Federal, State and hospital standards.
  • Support process and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and wrap or package supplies and instruments using proper techniques, ensuring successful sterilization.
  • Operate various sterilizers, including steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, and validate equipment functionality using mechanical and biological monitors.
  • Test and monitor sterilizing equipment through mechanical, chemical, and biological indicators, including daily biological and Bowie-Dick tests.
  • Maintain competency in using high-level disinfection solutions and follow hospital policies and recommended practices for detergents, enzymatic solutions, and reprocessing methods to meet manufacturer recommendations.
  • Operate washer/decontaminator per department policy.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting, including high-level disinfection and sterilization of soiled scopes from procedural areas following infection control policies.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Three years of sterile processing or operating room experience; previous leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Certifications: Sterile Processing and Distribution Certification (CRCST), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) Certification, or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.
