Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Clinical Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine, Inc. As a Clinical Mental Health Specialist, you will play a vital role in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with mental disorders. This position is integrated within our primary care clinic, where you will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide mental health and substance use screening protocols for adult and pediatric patients. Your expertise will be essential in developing and implementing treatment plans, including the prescription of psychotropic medications, and monitoring treatment results. You will also be responsible for evaluating patients by interviewing them, their families, and other relevant individuals, conducting physical examinations, observing behaviors, and reviewing medical history and related documents. Additionally, you will be required to develop treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders, and establishing treatment goals and methodologies. You will treat patients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, discuss progress toward goals with patients, provide instructions, monitor the effect of medications, and supervise staff provision of services. You will also maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Furthermore, you will assure quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations, participating in utilization reviews, and remaining available for emergency consultations. You will also improve staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues. You will maintain historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events, and writing summaries. Finally, you will update your job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients by interviewing them, their families, and other relevant individuals, conducting physical examinations, observing behaviors, and reviewing medical history and related documents.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including the prescription of psychotropic medications, and monitoring treatment results.
  • Treat patients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, discuss progress toward goals with patients, provide instructions, monitor the effect of medications, and supervise staff provision of services.

Qualifications:

Preparation and Training:
  • Completion of a psychiatric residency or a family medicine/psychiatry residency in an ACGME-approved residency program.
  • Current BC/BE in Psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry).
  • Valid state medical license as MD or DO.
  • Valid DEA certificate.
  • 2 years' experience working full-time as a psychiatrist in child/adult psychiatry.
Independent Judgment: Under general direction, works from organizational policies and objectives with little functional guidance. Rarely refers specific cases to supervisor unless clarification or interpretation of policies is required. Working Conditions: Flexible work hours are necessary at times for this position. Work requires contact with clients, family members, and other professional disciplines and service agencies. Contacts may also include volunteers, court officials, interns, and residents. These contacts involve an exercise of influence, tactful judgment, and proper conduct in order to negotiate matters and carry out policies and programs for the best interests of the company/patient. The applicant must be medically able to work and manage effectively with changing situations, varying workloads, interruptions, etc. in a fast-paced environment. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, biohazard substances, and other conditions found in a clinical environment. Travel will be required to outside agencies at times. Mental Attention or Visual Demand: Job requires continuous mental and visual attention, and manual dexterity when attending to patient care and medical record keeping. Repetitive work functions and diversified operations require constant alertness or activity. May involve problems of correlation or application of reports, statistics, or other data. Must have acute visual perception for patient care and record keeping requirements. Must be able to communicate via telephone and other communication systems. Normal or corrected vision is required in order to view computer screens, medical record forms, and equipment screens. Normal or corrected hearing is required for hearing alarms and for other safety considerations. Character of Supervision: Immediate supervision over a unit, section, or department where most of the time is spent assigning, reviewing, checking work, eliminating difficulties, and whereby procedures are standardized. Physical Demands: Position may require frequent standing/walking for extended periods of time.
