We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician - Satellite Office to provide clinical support to physicians at Johns Hopkins University. The successful candidate will work with faculty, Clinic Manager, and Clinic Supervisor to provide exceptional patient care.

The Ophthalmic Technician - Satellite Office will be responsible for:

  • Recording patient history, including chief complaint, ocular history, past surgeries, medical conditions, medications, allergies, learning assessment, falls risk, and family history.
  • Performing clinical duties, such as checking pupil response to light, measuring central visual field, instilling eye drops, and measuring intraocular pressure.
  • Conducting Humphrey visual field testing, OCTs, IOL Master measurements, and Pentacam measurements.
  • Providing accurate refractions, testing color vision, depth perception, and screening for ocular motility disorders.
  • Using a slit lamp to examine the eye surface and performing special testing, such as Bright field Acuity Testing, potential Acuity Meter, and pachymetry.
  • Compiling and entering data for clinical studies and participating in other clinical research projects.
  • Teaching patients how to insert and remove contact lenses correctly and performing ultrasound scans.
  • Calculating intraocular lens power and taking fundus photos as needed.
  • Assisting with in-office procedures, maintaining exam room supply, and ensuring medication expiration dates are current.
  • Maintaining and sterilizing instruments, disinfecting and maintaining examination rooms, and understanding and practicing microbial control.
  • Reviewing and responding to Epic in-basket messages, processing refill requests, and assisting with obtaining prior authorizations.
  • Providing support to front desk staff, managing and ordering medications for intravitreal injections, and tracking and processing form requests.
  • Maintaining general medical knowledge of ocular anatomy and physiology, systemic diseases, ocular diseases, and ocular emergencies.
  • Maintaining required ophthalmic technician certification and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or graduation equivalent, one year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, and CPR certification. The successful candidate must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification from JCAHPO within 18 months of start date.

This is a full-time position with a Monday-Friday schedule, 8:30am - 5:00pm. The starting salary range is $35.00 HRLY ($64,740 targeted; commensurate with experience).
